Event Details

ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT WILL CLOSE ON THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 8TH AT 5PM.  WE WILL HAVE EVENT DAY REGISTRATION BUT PREFER NOT TO SO PLEASE REGISTER ONLINE IN TIME. FOR TEAMS THAT REGISTER ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT - WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE T-SHIRTS. DAY OF REGISTRATION WILL ALSO COST $40 PER PERSON FOR THE COMPETITIVE RACE AND $25 PER PERSON FOR THE FUN RUN.
You may be wondering what a mud challenge is - our event this year will be a 7 mile on/off road running and physical fitness challenge.  Teams of 4 must compete together for the entire duration of the event. Along the course, we plan to have more than 40 physical challenges and obstacles, 1000 feet of mud pits and around 100 Marines who will provide "boot camp-like" motivation for all of the participants.
We will also have a 2.5 mile fun run for teams of 2 (and multiples of 2) and several kid's obstacles and a kids mud pit dash as well.  We're partnering with the Belmont Merchants Association and their Friday Night Live event on 9/9/2011 for pre-event registration.
The competitive team categories are: military, public safety/service, corporate, community, college, youth and our newest category - the Devil Dog team.
Each Devil Dog team member will have to wear his or her own 40 pound backpack for the duration of the race.  The packs will be weighed before and after the race.  The Devil Dogs will start the race before all other runners.
We will use D-tag chip timing for our event.

The purpose of our event is to raise funds* for:

  • financially-needy families of Marines and Sailors
  • families of Marines who are injured or killed in the line of duty
  • local reserve center family events and the Marine Corps Birthday celebration
  • deployment and return/reunion ceremonies
  • Operation HomeFront's (our newest non-profit partner) Thanksgiving meals provided for Marine families at Camp Lejeune, NC
  • Operation Stand Down (another new partner) which provides homeless veterans with showers, meals, clean clothes, housing opportunities and job search support

*100% of the funds that we raise are donated and we're all volunteers so there are no staffing salaries, fees, costs, etc. for our events.

The race will start and finish at the Belmont Lowe's / Wal-Mart parking lot this year.  These stores are located off exits 26 and 27 off of 85 on the southside of 85.

See below for the list of team names that are already being used!

We'll have plenty more information available on our website as we prepare for our largest Marine Mud Challenge to date.  www.carolinamarines.org

We look forward to seeing you in the mud!
